Galaxy S20 FE becomes first Android device to receive August 2023 security update

In a significant development, the Galaxy S20 FE has attained the distinction of being the first Android phone to receive the August 2023 security update. The implementation of this latest update signifies a substantial enhancement in both privacy and security for this smartphone. Users can expect improved safeguards and measures against potential vulnerabilities and threats.

The rollout of the August 2023 security update has commenced for the Galaxy S20 FE (SM-G780G) in select regions, including Bolivia, Brazil, Guatemala, Paraguay, and Trinidad & Tobago. As of now, the update primarily focuses on reinforcing the device’s security and does not introduce any new features or performance enhancements. Samsung is yet to provide specific details regarding the security vulnerabilities addressed in this particular patch.

For Galaxy S20 FE users residing in the aforementioned countries, checking for the new update is now possible. To do so, navigate to Settings » Software Update and initiate the “Download and Install” process. Alternatively, users can obtain the firmware file from the firmware database and opt for a manual installation.

The Galaxy S20 FE’s 4G version, powered by the Snapdragon 865 processor, made its debut in the second half of 2020, featuring Android 10 as its initial operating system. Subsequently, the device received the Android 11 update by the end of 2020, followed by the Android 12 update in the fourth quarter of 2021. Late last year, the Galaxy S20 FE received its final major update in the form of Android 13.
