Apple under-screen Face ID delayed to 2026

Apple is expected to reveal its under-screen Face ID iPhone this year but somehow the work is still not completed and the company is reportedly thinking of bringing this feature in 2026.

Display analyst Ross Young has previously accurately predicted Apple’s product information. He originally expected the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max to be the first iPhone models to use under-screen Face ID and a punch-hole front camera. However, now he said that this plan has been postponed to 2026, which means that the iPhone 18 Pro will become the first iPhone models to use under-screen Face ID.

This means that iPhones released this year and next will continue to use the Smart Island design, which first appeared on the iPhone 14 Pro. After moving Face ID under the screen, Apple is expected to adopt under-screen camera technology developed by LG Innotek after 2026. Compared with under-screen Face ID, the under-screen front camera is considered a greater challenge, which is why Face ID technology will be implemented first.
