With the new beta of WhatsApp the original home screen returns

The work of the WhatsApp developer team to improve this popular multi-platform instant messaging service continues unabated and in the past few hours the release of a new beta version for Android-based devices has been launched: we are talking about the version 2.22.13.8.

What’s new in WhatsApp Beta version 2.22.13.8 for Android

With Android 12 a new app launch animation has been introduced with an automatically enabled splash screen by default which has a very different look than the one developed by the WhatsApp team a few years ago.

For that reason, the messaging service developer team is now introducing some changes to restore the home screen after installing the latest beta version of the app. Here are the two boot screens compared:

The SplashScreen API used on Android 12 to generate the new app launch animation has been disabled, so with version 2.22.13.8 beta the “original” WhatsApp splash screen is displayed.

This change is only relevant for users who have a device with Android 12 while those who use a previous version of the OS already see the “original” home screen.

At the moment it is not clear if version 2.22.13.8 beta is available for all users who have signed up to the relevant program or only for some selected ones.
