Spotify is testing several tools that allow users to record, edit and publish podcasts directly from the main app

Spotify is testing several new tools that allow users to record, edit and publish podcast episodes directly from the main app. The company rolled out the feature in New Zealand last month. This would eliminate the need for users to resort to other apps, such as Spotify-owned Anchor, to record and publish podcasts.

Outgoing Spotify executive and Anchor co-founder Michael Mignano took note of the feature’s introduction and said it would allow users to create podcasts “without the need for additional tools or hardware. He joined the Spotify audio streaming company after Anchor was acquired in 2019.

A video posted by Spotify New Zealand explains how to use these tools. You can see a + button next to “Your Library” in the bottom bar of the home screen. If you click on it, you can choose to “Record Podcast” or “Create Playlist.”

Once you tap the record podcast option, you’ll see a login screen and a record button to start recording the clip. You can record audio all at once, or tap the pause button to take a break. After recording, you can edit the clip and add background music from the preset available tracks. After editing, you can assign a title, add an episode description, tag another podcast or song and publish it.

Currently, no details are available for users in other markets and how to access your podcast analytics. TechCrunch has asked Spotify for more details but has not yet received a response.
