Google accelerates the pace of Chrome update from the current 6-week update cycle to 4 weeks

Today Google announced that the update frequency of the faster Chrome browser has been shortened from the current 6-week update cycle to 4 weeks. The Chrome team wrote in today’s announcement:

“As we improve the testing and release of Chrome, and deploy security updates every 2 weeks, we have greatly improved our patch rhythm, and the release cycle has been significantly shortened, which can help users Provide new features faster”.

However, Google also admits that not all users want a faster pace of updates, especially corporate users. For these users, Google has added a new Extended Stable option, which will be updated every 8 weeks.

This feature will be provided to enterprise administrators and Chromium embedders. They can still get security updates every 2 weeks, but Google pointed out that these security updates will not include new features.

The 4-week update cycle will take effect from the Chrome 94 version in the third quarter of 2021. If this rhythm is followed, the stable version of Chrome 100 will be released before March 29, 2022.
