Microsoft plans to integrate the Edge browser code base to facilitate timely updates of the mobile version

According to Neowin, Microsoft is planning to integrate the code base of the Edge browser to facilitate simultaneous updates on Windows, Mac, and mobile platforms. Microsoft pushed Edge 89 version on March 5, bringing many new features, speeding up the startup speed, improving the history search, and also bringing the vertical label feature.

However, the current version of the Android Edge browser is still at version 77. Some users showed a slide from Microsoft, showing the Chromium kernel Edge browser will integrate multi-platform code.

The slide shows that this can facilitate engineers to add new features to Edge browsers on different platforms in a timely manner. Microsoft will migrate to the common code base for the desktop, Android, and iOS versions of the Edge browser later this year.

However, due to Apple’s policy, the iOS version of the Edge browser will still use WebKit. Microsoft has stated that it has been working hard to unify the Edge code base in the past year and will release a beta test version for Android and iOS clients in the next few months.
