Apple may transfer 10% of iPhone 12 production from China to India

According to Business Standard reports, Apple is preparing to transfer 10% of iPhone 12 production from China to India. The new device will not only be sold in India but also exported overseas. So far, Apple has produced iPhone 11 and iPhone XR in India, but now it seems that it plans to introduce iPhone 12 production to India.

According to Business Standard, the assembly partner Foxconn is preparing to start the production of iPhone 12 series models in India soon. It is said that Foxconn’s factory in Tamil Nadu will produce this new model.

Another assembly partner, Pegatron, is also expected to participate in the production of the iPhone 12 in India. However, Foxconn will soon begin production of this model in India, and Pegatron’s manufacturing of this model may begin later in 2021.

Whether Wistron will join the production of the iPhone 12 is still questionable. After a riot broke out in a factory, Apple has reviewed the company and the factory has been reopened. Experts said that through this move, Apple is expected to transfer 7%-10% of iPhone 12 production capacity from China.

This move is also considered to take advantage of the Indian government’s “Production Linked Incentive Program (PLI)”, which will provide bonuses for investing in smartphone production in the country. Apple’s assembly partners Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron have all signed up. Participate in the program.

Shifting part of its production to India may also be seen as Apple’s attempt to diversify its supply chain and get rid of its China-centric situation. Sensitivity to international politics and the impact of the Sino-US trade war caused Apple to reconsider where to produce its products. In addition, it is said that Apple is also working with assembly partners to transfer part of the production of iPad and MacBook to Vietnam.
