AT&T will launch a cheaper HBO Max service with ads in June

According to the latest reports, AT&T announced on Friday that it plans to launch a cheaper subscription to HBO Max service in June. The telecommunications giant only released some details of the plan. It has not announced the pricing or exact release date of the upcoming cheap version.

AT&T expects that the ad-supported HBO Max service will be combined with global expansion to promote user and revenue growth in 2021. HBO Max will be launched in 60 markets outside the United States in 2021. This will include 39 Latin America and the Caribbean at the end of June, and 21 European regions in the second half of 2021.

The company expects to have 67 million to 70 million users by the end of this year. The service has approximately 61 million users at the end of 2020. The company expects its HBO division’s revenue to more than double in the next five years.

In response to this epidemic, while Warner Bros. was showing in theaters, 17 movies including “The Matrix 4” and “Dune” were shown on HBO Max for a full month. Although some film industry veterans criticized this move for fear that it would accelerate the demise of traditional cinemas, it also allowed movie fans to watch blockbuster movies at home.

HBO Max was launched in May 2020. The service provides a full back-up catalog of HBO series and movies, as well as additional content from parent company WarnerMedia. The library also includes classic series such as “Friends”, “Sesame Street”, “Rick and Morty” and “The Big Bang Theory”. The service can be used as a standalone application on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.
