iFixit disassembles latest Xiaomi device Mi 11

After Samsung Galaxy S21 kicked off the Android flagship smartphone war in 2021, Xiaomi also launched its own Mi 11. Xiaomi Mi 11 continues its cost-effective flagship smartphone market strategy. However, iFixit’s detailed disassembly analysis shows that the phone still has trade-offs in many aspects, and most of them are related to the service life and durability of the mobile phone.

It is reported that compared with most mobile phones with a “glass-metal-glass” sandwich structure design, the disassembly and repair of the Xiaomi Mi 11 is relatively easier. The heat-conducting components and some cables can be seen on the glass back panel, and the screen components on the front of the fuselage do not need to be disassembled too much.

Of course, this may also be a secondary reason why the machine lacks the IPxx protection level that some consumers expect. The density of internal components is still quite high, so it is difficult to visually distinguish the layout of the cable and the connector seat.

iFixit found that some components have a fairly high degree of modularity, but other components still rely on tight welding with the motherboard. For example, the USB-C port may be more prone to wear.

The good news is that the internal structure design of Mi 11 also has many highlights, such as the battery assembly is equipped with a special pull tab to easily separate from the screen assembly.

However, if you want to remove certain components, you still face certain risks. For example, if you want to repair and replace the fingerprint sensor under the screen, you have to remove the screen first.

Overall, iFixit still gave Xiaomi Mi 11 a repairability score of 4/10, which is higher than the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, which is much more expensive. Even if it can’t be given the title of “highly maintenance-friendly mobile phone”, the relatively affordable price will help alleviate consumers’ maintenance expenses when accidents occur.
