Windows 10 21H2 Sun Valley Update makes Notepad an independent store application

Microsoft recently released the Windows 10 21H2 “Sun Valley Update” test build version to testers on the development channel. Build 21337 contains several new features. It is also the first build of the next feature update. Its major change is to make Notepad an independent updateable store application.

The Notepad application of Windows 10 received a lot of attention in 2020 when Microsoft updated it and added some new features. In Build 21337 or later, Notepad updates will be automatically pushed through the Microsoft Store. Because this means that users will be able to get new features of Notepad in addition to the main feature updates of Windows 10 in the future.

Notepad May Become Better Soon

Starting from Windows 1.0, Notepad has been included in Windows, and every Windows version will update it. According to the official release notes, the last updated content of Notepad is to support expanded line breaks, surround search, and indicators of unsaved content.

By transferring the famous text editor to the Microsoft Store, it can now be updated like other store apps, and it will not be linked to operating system updates. This will also allow Microsoft to respond more quickly to questions and feedback and resolve issues through separate store updates.

It is worth noting that the update of Notepad is limited to the Sun Valley test version of Windows 10, which will be released in October/November. At present, we don’t know whether Notepad will also get updates on older versions of the operating system through the Windows Store, such as 21H1 and 20H2 versions. We also don’t know if Notepad has any major features (dark mode?) and improvement plans. In addition, Notepad seems to have been removed from the Windows attachment folder, and it will be settled in the location of the start menu.
