Microsoft’s Spring 2021 Surface conference looks forward to new accessories and more

Although there has been little news from Microsoft since the Surface Pro 7+ in January this year, onMSFT still has a look at the hardware lineup of the Surface new product launch conference in the spring of 2021.

Zac Bowden of Windows Central pointed out that Microsoft is still planning for the Surface new product launch this spring, but the focus may only be on the update of accessories and color options. Specifically, this conference may bring a cobalt blue color-matched Surface, the new Teams Bluetooth headset, the Surface Classroom Pen stylus, and minor updates to the existing product line.

Basically the same as last year’s rumors, it is expected that we will usher in a dual-platform Surface Laptop this spring. In addition to Intel’s 11th generation mobile processors, there are also options for AMD Ryzen 4000 series CPUs. In terms of storage, it is rumored that Microsoft will break the 16GB memory limit over the years and provide options of up to 32GB RAM. The entry model of Surface Laptop 4 is still 8GB RAM + 256GB storage.

The 13.5-inch version of the entry-level Intel 11th generation/AMD Ryzen 4000 series mobile processor version starts at US$999 (about 6558 RMB) and may have new color options. Interestingly, it is rumored that Microsoft will also prepare a Surface headset mainly for business users, with special emphasis on the Teams feature. It is guessed that it is likely to follow the naming convention of “Surface Pro 7 +”, with the suffix “Plus” as well.

In addition, Petri and Brad Smas of Thurrott.com pointed out that the commercial version of Surface Headphones Plus has been certified by Teams, and the adapter supports connection with PCs that are not equipped with Bluetooth. And similar to the practice of Apple and other headset manufacturers, Microsoft will also provide replaceable earmuff accessories to extend the life of the device.

Regrettably, the headset may not provide the legendary cobalt blue color, but only matte black. There are also rumors that Microsoft may launch a new webcam that supports 4K video recording, high dynamic range (HDR), and privacy protection features.

Finally, it is said that Microsoft is planning to update the Surface Classroom Pen, but it is not clear what exact specifications the second-generation stylus has.
