It is not clear why Samsung made such a decision. Indeed, as far as the Exynos 990 chipset is concerned, the company has faced a lot of criticism due to overheating and battery life issues. The Galaxy S20 and Note 20 series equipped with Exynos 990 both showed worse performance than similar products of the Snapdragon 865 when shipped.
Even in 2021, the Galaxy S20 FE is a good mid-range model.
