Edge Canary ushered in continuous improvement of performance mode on Windows 10

Although the Google Chrome browser is very popular, it also caused a lot of complaints due to its excessive resource overhead. In contrast, although Microsoft Edge is also based on the Chromium kernel, the technology giant has introduced many measures to improve poor performance problems. Windows Latest pointed out that as part of the “performance mode” introduced earlier this month, Microsoft plans to reduce the animation effects of the Edge browser when users are not actively using the browser.

Previously, the experimental “performance mode” introduced on Edge Canary enabled it to gain a greater advantage over its competitors on the Windows 10 platform. It tries to optimize CPU and memory usage, reduce battery/power consumption while ensuring the speed, performance and responsiveness of the browser.

But last week, Microsoft Edge made some adjustments to the settings page and included additional information about the upcoming performance mode. Microsoft said in a statement that performance improvements will vary based on users’ device configurations and browsing habits. But after enabling optional features, users will notice at least three changes.

Microsoft is implementing these changes to reduce CPU usage and improve battery life. First, after enabling “Performance Mode”, streaming video may become less smooth. Second, when the user is not interacting with the browser, Edge’s animation will also slow down.

The third change is the default label sleep behavior. Microsoft confirmed that the background/inactive tabs will go to sleep in 5 minutes instead of 2 hours. Interested friends can enable the experimental flag of Performance Mode hidden in Microsoft Edge in the following ways:

Right-click the Edge Canary shortcut on Windows 10, and then add the following content in the target field——

–enable-features=msPerformanceModeToggle

Or you can run the executable file of the browser through the command prompt (CMD) (remember to add this line suffix as well).
