Windows 10 is currently running on 1.3 billion monthly active devices

Windows 10 is moving towards a major milestone of 1.5 billion. Microsoft announced that the operating system is now used by 1.3 billion active devices every month. This is the statement of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella (Satya Nadella), who announced this latest milestone during the company’s fiscal year 21 third-quarter earnings conference call on April 27.

Microsoft initially predicted that by the summer of 2018, Windows 10 will appear on 1 billion devices, but the company’s time to achieve the 1 billion figure was two years later than initial expectations. In March 2020, Windows 10 was used on 1 billion active devices. In March 2019, Windows 10 reached 800 million monthly active devices and reached the 600 million mark in November 2017.

If you pay close attention to Microsoft, you may have noticed that the company has shifted its focus to other products (Azure and Office), and the development of the Windows platform has slowed down. The past two feature updates have focused very much on the enterprise and have hardly changed for consumers.

However, Microsoft has confirmed that it plans to turn Windows into a product that customers actively love. “I want to turn Windows from people who need it – knowing they need it – into loving and wanting it,” said Microsoft’s Panos Panay.

It is said that Microsoft is developing a new version of Windows code-named “Sun Valley”, also known as “New Windows”. The Sun Valley update or new Windows will be released in October/November, and Microsoft will announce these features in the near future, possibly at the Build 2021 developer conference.

The Sun Valley update of Windows 10 is expected to adopt a rounded corner design, bringing a new dark mode experience, an improved file explorer, modern icons, floating menus, and a new start menu.
