Samsung applies for new trademark to make Galaxy Z Fold 3/Flip 3 more durable

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 in the second half of this year and focus on improving the durability of these foldable devices. Citing a report from LetsGoDigital, Samsung Electronics began to apply for “Armor Frame” and “Armor Layer” to multiple countries last month, describing it as a new type of smartphone/smartwatch frame.

Samsung seems to want to do a lot of marketing efforts on the framework. Samsung has filed these applications in South Korea, Europe and the United States last month, and now Samsung has also registered the same names in Australia and Mexico. The Korean manufacturer has also applied for two new trademarks, which seem to be related to the aforementioned applications.

On April 29 and 30, 2021, Samsung Electronics submitted the two trademarks “Armor Frame” and “Armor Layer” to the European Union Intellectual Property Organization (EUIPO) and IP Australia. Both applications are classified as Class 9, which is described as: “Smartphones; smartphones framework; smartwatches; watch intelligent framework.”

According to speculation, “Armor Frame” should correspond to the “Ceramic Shield” product capability. Apple launched this product in the iPhone 12 series to make the screen of the new iPhone model 4 times more resistant to scratches. “Armor Frame” may be a particularly strong frame, and the weight may be lighter and thinner than the aluminum frame currently used in Samsung’s high-end mobile phones.
