Facebook launches vaccine search tool in India and donates $10 million

Facebook announced a donation of 10 million US dollars to support India’s emergency work and launched a vaccine search tool for it because this South Asian country is struggling to cope with the latest wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

The company has cooperated with a number of organizations, including United Way, Swasth, Hemkunt Foundation, I Am Gurgaon, Project Mumbai, and US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) to help the Indian healthcare community provide critical medical supplies.

Including more than 5,000 oxygen concentrators and other life-saving equipment, such as ventilators, BiPAP machines, and trying to increase the capacity of hospital beds. Facebook also said that it has cooperated with the Indian government to launch a vaccine search tool on the company’s main app.

The tool is available in 17 languages and is designed to help people identify and discover vaccine centers near them. Last week, India opened up vaccinations to people between 18 and 45 years old, and its website soon collapsed and did not immediately accept appointment requests from most people in this age group.

However, a bigger challenge facing India is the shortage of vaccines. Facebook said that it is also providing advertising funding support for NGOs and UN agencies in India to provide most people with COVID-19 vaccine and preventive health information on Facebook.

In addition, the company said it is providing health resources to people from the UNICEF India office on when to seek emergency care and how to deal with mild COVID-19 symptoms at home. In recent weeks, dozens of companies, start-ups, entrepreneurs, and investors have stepped up their efforts to help India, the world’s second-most populous country, cope with the pandemic, as the federal and state governments have been found to be unprepared to deal with the problem.

On Monday, Pfizer said it was shipping $70 million worth of medicines to India. “We are committed to becoming India’s partner in the fight against this disease and are working quickly to mobilize the largest humanitarian relief effort in our company’s history,” said Albert Bula, the company’s chairman and chief executive officer.
