The source said that TSMT is the exclusive SMT service provider for the mini LED backlight of the recently launched 12.9-inch iPad Pro, and it is expected to also provide components for the two upcoming MacBook models with mini LED backlight.

The source pointed out that due to the problems of PCB and adhesive materials, the yield rate of TSMT for surface mounting of miniLED backlights was initially not high enough. After replacing PCB and adhesive material suppliers, TSMC has increased the yield rate to more than 95% at present.
The redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are expected to use the next-generation Apple Silicon chip, cancel the Touch Bar, return to the MagSafe magnetic power cord, and adopt an overall new design with an HDMI port and SD card slot.
