IDC: Global smartphone shipments to reach 1.38 billion units in 2021

IDC released its global smartphone market forecast on May 26. The report shows that global smartphone shipments are expected to reach 1.38 billion units in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 7.7%. This trend will continue until 2022, and next year shipments are expected to reach 1.43 billion units, an increase of 3.8%.

The agency said that the market share of 5G mobile phones will continue to grow. In emerging markets, as the new crown epidemic has slowed down from 2020, the demand for low- and mid-end 4G mobile phones is very strong. Looking ahead, the growth momentum of smartphones will continue until 2025, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.7%.

IDC predicts that with the large-scale popularization of 5G networks and the reduction in the cost of 5G mobile phones, the shipment of 5G mobile phones will achieve triple-digit growth by the end of this year.
