Samsung plans to release the first consumer-grade SSD based on the 7th generation V-NAND this year

According to the latest report, Samsung confirmed today that it plans to launch the 7-generation V-NAND solution in 2021, and will release its first V-NAND solution based on the seventh-generation in the second half of 2021. -NAND consumer-grade SSD.

Samsung said that thanks to the 7-generation V-NAND technology, the upcoming SSD will have the smallest cell size in the industry. Compared with the sixth-generation 100-layer V-NAND, the seventh-generation cell volume is reduced by 35%. This technology can stack 176 layers without increasing the height of the module, while also reducing power consumption and increasing efficiency by 16%.

The consumer-grade SSD targets professionals, especially professionals working from home. The SSD will be optimized for multitasking workloads, such as simultaneous video editing and 3D modeling. However, Samsung has not disclosed any capacity options.

Samsung also claims to have developed an eighth-generation V-NAND solution with more than 200 stacked layers. This solution will be introduced to the market according to the needs of consumers, but now the focus is to expand the seventh-generation V-NAND to more use cases.

In addition, Samsung also stated that any technology has its limitations. V-NAND modules will reach its 1,000-layer height limit in the future, and Samsung will use 3D scaling technology to overcome these limitations.
