Google will skip the Chrome v95 to accommodate the new four-week release cycle

Earlier this year, Google announced that the release cycle of the Chrome browser was changed to four weeks, which shortened the time between releases of the consumer version. This change is expected to appear in version 94 of Chrome. Today, the company announced its plans for Chrome OS 96 and changes to the upcoming release schedule.

The company said that starting from version 96, it will change the Chrome OS release cycle to four weeks, and it is expected to meet with users sometime at the end of November. On the other hand, Chrome version 94 is expected to be launched in stable channels in the third week of September.

The corresponding Chrome OS version will be released in the week of October 14. Taking these timelines into account, the search giant said that it will skip the Chrome 95 version completely to fill in the gap between the 94 and 96 versions.

The company also revealed that it is the business and education that introduced a new six-month update cycle of the operating system’s user interface. This may be to focus more on stability and security, rather than on the increase in functionality. However, the company did not provide much information in this regard. The browser also plans to have a similar extended stabilization option with an 8-week cycle.

Google’s Marina Kazatcker added: As we enter the next decade, these changes allow us to develop Chrome OS, continue to help people get their work done, and provide a more helpful and safe experience.

This means that Chromium-based browsers-such as Microsoft’s Edge-also skip version 95, which coincides with Chrome’s release schedule, which is not surprising. However, Edge’s release schedule page has not mentioned any changes to the schedule.
