Google added a new call status bar indicator for Android 12

Android 12 has undergone a major redesign of the user interface, and Google is polishing the details before the official release. Last week, Google launched the Android 12 Beta 2 update for the Pixel series. One of the notable details is that the indicator in the status bar makes it easier for people to grasp the length of the current call.

Normally, when you switch back to the main interface during a call, a notification will be displayed showing the duration of the call, and you can tap it to quickly return to the phone application. However, if you want to display it, you need to set it to on in the notification settings.

In Android 12, Google added the “chip” (the pill-shaped UI element in Material Design) of the call duration in the status bar, which directly displays the current call duration instead of displaying it in the notification center. Under normal circumstances, clicking “chip” can trigger an action.

Presumably, third-party applications (such as Skype, WhatsApp, Viber, etc.) will also be able to use “chip” to display the call time and set a custom action when the chip is clicked. At present, ordinary users cannot try this new feature, and the current Google dialer application does not support it.

In the above animation, clicking “chip” did not open the phone application. This is a Magisk/Xposed module customized by the developer kdrag0n to try out the new features of Android 12.
