Microsoft has launched a new Windows 11 operating system and confirmed to PCWorld that only about half of the existing devices will support upgrading to Windows 11, and other models may be abandoned.
It is reported that there are only five old models of Surface devices that support upgrades, mainly the latest generation of Microsoft Surface products. So far, Microsoft has launched a total of 25 Surface models.
Microsoft did not comment on the “models not included in the upgrade list”. It is reasonable to guess that it is related to the minimum hardware requirements of Windows 11 listed earlier today, or it may be related to TPM 2.0.
In other words, most of Microsoft’s Surface Pro tablets are not eligible for upgrades, and Surface Hub, Surface Studio, and Surface Duo do not support upgrades. Simply put, if your Surface is a version before 2017, then I’m sorry, your device probably does not support upgrading to Windows 11.

- Surface Laptop 4 15″ (April 2021)
- Surface Laptop 3 13.5” (October 2019)
- Surface Laptop 3 15″ (October 2019)
- Surface Laptop 2 (October 2018)
- Surface Laptop Go (October 2020)
- Surface Pro 7+ (February 2021)
- Surface Pro 7 (October 2019)
- Surface Pro 6 (October 2018)
- Surface Pro X (November 2019)
