6 years after going to the control panel, Windows 11 still carries it

Today, Microsoft released the first preview version of Windows 11. After digging into the preview version, some sources found that although Windows 11 brings a new setting application experience, it still provides the classic control panel like Windows 10.

As early as 2015 when Microsoft launched Windows 10, Microsoft enabled the use of modern solutions and redesigned settings applications, and Microsoft promised to completely abandon the classic control panel.

But the entire migration process is very slow. Microsoft has spent several years gradually migrating the control panel functions to the settings application while maintaining stability. Of course, this process cannot be accomplished overnight, but each migration shows that Microsoft continues to abandon the classic control panel.

Today, 6 years later, the control panel still exists. More importantly, it still exists in the first Windows 11 preview version. Of course, this does not change much for the future of the control panel, because it is still a very limited part of the operating system because most of the options have been transferred to the settings application.

Needless to say, if Microsoft has enough time to transfer the remaining options to “Settings”, then when Windows 11 is ready to launch, Microsoft may completely abandon the control panel.
