Microsoft Lumia 950 XL successfully transplanted Windows 11

For desktop devices equipped with Intel, AMD and ARM chips, the first preview version of Windows 11, Build 22000.51, has been officially released. A skilled cracker non-stop porting Windows 11 to Windows Phone, not only can run successfully but also some features can be used stably.

Developer Gustave Monce used UUP mirroring and successfully installed the ARM version of Windows 11 on the Lumia 950 XL device. You should know that Lumia 950 XL is a Windows 10 Mobile device released in 2015 and was discontinued due to application issues in 2016/2017.

Although Windows 11 is officially designed for tablets/desktops, the upcoming operating system is very scalable in mobile form factors. The Lumia 950 XL with a 5.7-inch display can boot up new Windows, and it runs relatively stable. As you can see from the picture, the start menu works normally and the new animation is also displayed. Although Windows 11 responds well to smaller form factors, there is still a lot of work to be done.

The developer also manually ported the drivers of the Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 on ARM projects and successfully enabled the cellular network connection in Windows 11. This hacker brought call and messaging support to the desktop operating system.

Windows 11 is obviously equipped with special settings to manage cellular connections on Snapdragon-powered Always Connected PCs, but it also works on Windows phones. Windows 11 is essentially Windows 10, which drew a lot of inspiration from Microsoft’s cancellation of Windows 10X, while still retaining the look and feel of Windows. The live tiles are gone, but the icons have been optimized for touch input.

It is also worth noting that Microsoft is not developing a mobile version of Windows 11. Official documents have confirmed that the operating system is only suitable for devices with 9-inch displays, which may mean that the company does not intend to use it for mobile-shaped touch-screen devices. Although this project may not be ideal, it is an impressive feat that proves that Lumia 950XL can still run the new operating system.
