Windows 11 will focus on optimizing Win32 apps, bringing it a modern interface

Win UI is Microsoft’s most advanced user interface technology for building Windows applications. At the Microsoft Build 2020 developer conference, the Win UI team officially announced Win UI 3 and released a preview version of Win UI 3.

Win UI 3 is a new user interface suitable for Windows 10 and Windows 11. It inherits the traditions of Win UI and UWP XAML, provides the latest graphics functions and Fluent Design styles, which include today’s modern devices, hardware and inputs.

Microsoft said at the time that Win UI 3 will support Win32 applications and UWP applications. However, Microsoft recently announced that it will not release the Win UI 3 stable version of UWP for the time being, and will focus on the interface improvement of Win32 applications.

According to Microsoft’s official statement, they will focus on “Let Win Ul 3 work for Win32 developers”. As part of the new strategy, Microsoft said it will reach out to the huge Win32 community and convince developers to update their applications for Windows 11.

For UWP developers, WinUI project manager Ryan Demopoulos said: It is not that Win UI 3 will never support UWP, but that there are no plans for the time being. This is good news for Win32 developers, but for UWP developers, WinUI 2 does not support Chromium’s WebView2 control or NET 5.0, so there may be some restrictions on development.

For users, a large number of old Win32 applications will be covered with modern UI, and the experience will be a qualitative leap.
