M1X MacBook Pro only supports up to 32GB instead of 64GB

In the first generation of Mac models using Apple’s M1 custom chip, the RAM capacity was limited to a uniform 16GB. Although it is sufficient for most people, there are still many users who want to further enhance multitasking performance. Recently, it has been reported that the upcoming M1X version of the MacBook Pro product line is expected to resolve this pain point of Apple M1 users and introduce up to 64GB RAM.

With reference to the company’s historical release rhythm, we are expected to usher in the redesigned MacBook Pro and upgraded Mac mini product lines in the fourth quarter of this year. However, Luke Miani cites new revelations that Apple seems to have cut the upper limit of the M1X MacBook Pro’s memory capacity by half to 32GB, and the M1X Mac mini has not been spared.

If Apple limits the memory capacity of the M1X chip to 32GB, both the MacBook Pro and the 22021 upgraded Mac mini will miss 64GB RAM. Even though Apple’s macOS operating system is relatively good in application memory management and optimization, this limitation will still dissuade many potential consumers when tasks that require a large amount of memory are running at the same time.

What is even more unacceptable is that there are rumors that Apple Silicon iMac with an M2X chipset seems to only provide up to 32GB of storage. Hopefully, when the future Apple Silicon workstations come out, this restriction will eventually be lifted. The good news is that earlier news said that the new 14/16-inch MacBook Air will be equipped with UHS-II high-speed card reader (supporting 312 MB/s data transmission), MagSafe magnetic charging and HDMI port will also return, and usher in a mini-LED screen.
