Google Assistant will facilitate online shopping with this novelty

Duplex is best known as a service designed to make calls on your behalf using a human-like voice to make appointments but this technology is also used to speed up online interactions and some Google Assistant users in the last few hours are having a try.

Recall that Duplex on the Web was launched for the first time at the end of 2019 to manage the purchase of cinema tickets: called Google Assistant in Chrome, it allows you to choose the movie to watch, the number of tickets and places directly in the assistant interface instead of on the cinema website.

Over the months Duplex has seen its functions grow, with support for restaurant reservations or for shopping, also becoming a solution used by the Mountain View giant to accelerate online payments. Well, as we learn from 9to5Google, now some users are able to see this system in action on some compatible sites (like Hot Topic).

After adding a product to your cart and proceeding to checkout, a Google Assistant panel will scroll up saying that it can help the user to checkout quickly, giving him the option to disable completely through a Skip button or proceed to the Express Payment. Those who use this system for the first time must accept Google Assistant in Google Chrome and the Quick payment in a few taps feature.

The assistant will then show the user’s contact information, payment method, and shipping address to confirm those details before automatically entering them line by line on the retailer’s site (this happens in real-time and users are able to see this process). So there is nothing left to do but confirm. At the moment, this quick checkout with Google Assistant appears to be only available in the US and UK.
