BMW i4 M50 is the new MotoE Safety Car

MotoE will soon have a new Safety Car. In fact, BMW has announced that on 15 August, on the occasion of the Austrian GP that will take place on the Red Bull Ring circuit, it will officially present the BMW i4 M50 Safety Car which will replace the current BMW i8 Safety Car.

The new Safety Car will be based on the BMW i4 M50 model which will be launched in November 2021 and which will have an output of 400 kW with 795 Nm of torque. A high-performance electric car that lends itself well to becoming the Safety Car for the electric motorcycle championship. The German manufacturer did not want to share any particular information on how his car will be modified to fill this particular role.

The car manufacturer, however, has released a series of teasers of the new Safety car from which it is possible to observe some first elements. In addition to having a gray color with writings and details in a sort of fluorescent green, on the roof, there are the classic flashing lights that all Safety Cars have. All that remains is to wait a little less than two weeks to discover the secrets of this special car and see it in action on the track.

It is not the first time that the BMW Group has decided to create an electric Safety Car for championships involving battery-powered vehicles. For Formula E, in fact, the MINI Electric Pacesetter has presented a few months ago, a special version of the electric MINI with a design inspired by that the John Cooper Works and with all the technical elements to be used as a Safety Car.

Returning to the BMW i4 M50, its powertrain features a dual electric motor scheme. Therefore, four-wheel drive is also present. The maximum speed of the production vehicle is 225 km/h. To go from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.9 seconds using the Launch Control. The whole is powered by an 83.9 kWh battery (80.7 kWh usable) which allows autonomy according to the WLTP cycle up to 510 km. In Italy, the BMW i4 M50 starts at 73,000 euros.
