Chrome has greatly optimized the Manage Search Engines page

Google is making huge adjustments to the Manage Search Engines page in the Chrome browser. In addition to allowing users to manually create search engines, Chrome has curbed the abuse of automatically created search engines and introduced Scope Search called Keyword Search.

Currently, the default search engines in the Chrome browser include Google, Yahoo, Bing, DuckDuckGo and Ecosia. When users search on the website, Chrome will automatically add some search engines, which will increase the list and become a mess. These search engines appear under Other search engines. The user can add a custom search engine for the desired website in this section by clicking the add button.

In the recent update, Chrome provides new options, you can select the space bar or the Tab key, or only the Tab key as a shortcut in the Settings. Google has proposed an active search engine section in the settings to curb the proliferation of automatic search engines in the Chrome browser. When a user adds a new search engine and sets it as active (if it is already available), it will be disabled. Manual search engines created by users are synchronized with other search engines.

Steps:

  • Visit Settings>Search Engine.
  • Manage search engines> your search engine.
  • Click Add and type the search engine name, keywords, and URL.

In addition to the current Set as Default, Edit and Remove from List, the search engine’s three-point menu also provides Activate and Deactivate options. Check Your Search Engine Section in Chrome Management Search Engine Settings:

  • Open Chrome 95 Canary
  • Visit chrome://flags/#omnibox-active-search-engines
  • Restart the browser
