Xiaomi will no longer include Mi in its product names in the future

In order to meet different market positioning, Xiaomi has divided its products into multiple sub-brands, the most notable of which is Mi. Ten years after the first smartphone with the Mi brand, Xiaomi has made a major decision: Future products will no longer include the name Mi in their names. The representative of Xiaomi said that the rebranding started with Xiaomi Mix 4, and all new products launched in the future will follow this approach.

Although millet brand smartphone is known, but also Xiaomi smart home, lifestyle and computing category sells many products, including TVs, laptops, refrigerators, air fryers, smartwatches, scooters, robots, hairdryer and so on. Most of these products carry the Mi brand today, but for any new products they launch, this will change. In fact, the first Xiaomi product under the Mi brand is not a smartphone. The company’s first product is actually MIUI. Its Android-based operating system has now evolved to version 12.5.

At the end of 2011, Xiaomi launched its first smart phone-Xiaomi 1. This smartphone had flagship (at the time) specifications, including Qualcomm’s dual-core Snapdragon S3 chipset, 1GB of RAM, and a 4-inch 854×480 resolution LCD panel. Of course, it also runs MIUI on the basis of Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

In the next few years, Xiaomi continued to launch new smartphones in its Xiaomi series, all of which were exclusively sold in China. At the end of 2013, Xiaomi dug up Hugo Bara from Google, who was the vice president and product spokesperson of the Android system at that time.

Under Barra’s guidance, Xiaomi expanded to other parts of Asia, including Singapore, but more importantly, India, which has become the key to Xiaomi’s global success. The first products that Xiaomi launched outside of China were Xiaomi 3 and Redmi 2, the latter being the second product of the company’s Redmi sub-brand. Since then, the Redmi sub-brand has developed greatly and has become the key to Xiaomi’s global strategy.
