A Samsung smartphone catches fire on a plane and panic breaks out

From time to time it happens that a smartphone (or, better, its battery) overheats until it catches fire and in the past few hours yet another incident of this type has occurred: in fact, news of a Samsung arrives from the United States. Galaxy A21 made the journey of over a hundred passengers on an Alaska Airlines plane quite lively.

According to The Seattle Times, a passenger’s Samsung Galaxy A21 caught fire inside the cabin of the Flight 751 plane from New Orleans to Seattle that landed at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Perry Cooper, an airport spokesperson, explained that the smartphone was damaged so much that it was no longer possible to recognize even the model and it was its owner who revealed that it was a Samsung Galaxy A21.

The crew of Flight 751 managed to put out the fire thanks to a battery containment bag (a protective device found on many aircraft) but the smoke generated forced the deployment of the evacuation chutes. The Seattle airport company said the 128 passengers and six crew members were safely transported from a bus to the terminal and that there were no injuries or repercussions on the facility’s operations.

Basically, just a bit of a scare but no serious damage, except for the Samsung Galaxy A21 of course. Unfortunately, lithium batteries are subject to the risk of fires and explosions and this incident should not worry the owners of Samsung Galaxy A21 too much (it should be an isolated case), as it is a problem common to all smartphones and electronic devices.
