Toyota will launch a new Arene operating system in the next five years

Although Japanese cars have the advantages of fuel economy, durability, and high-value retention, we must also realize that Japanese cars are still at the level of elementary school students at the level of car-device systems. Compared with domestically-produced cars, this is clearly reflected in many aspects such as convenience and intelligence of operation.

A few days ago, according to the latest reports, on August 25, Toyota’s chief product integration officer Keiji Yamamoto announced in Tokyo a software development plan for future models of Toyota and Lexus brands. Keiji Yamamoto said that Toyota will launch a new Arene operating system in the next five years, and starting from the new generation of Lexus NX that will be launched this fall, it will follow the practices of competitors Tesla and Volkswagen and provide a wider range of OTA updates.

In fact, the Lexus LS500h flagship model and Toyota Mirai fuel cell electric car already support OTA upgrade function, but the upcoming Lexus NX and other future models will further expand the coverage of OTA upgrade. According to Keiji Yamamoto, Toyota’s new operating system will be named Arene and is expected to be launched on the market within the next five years. The operating system is developed by Woven Planet, Toyota’s subsidiary focusing on artificial intelligence and autonomous driving, and the operating system will also be provided to other companies in the future.

It is worth mentioning that Keiji Yamamoto also said that Toyota believes that the Arene operating system can be comparable to the car version of Microsoft Windows and Apple’s iOS operating system. In addition to providing more functions and improving efficiency, the development time of the Arene operating system is shorter, so it has a shorter product cycle.
