Google Drive becomes even smarter and allows you to access files offline

The Google Drive team announces the introduction of an important novelty that will be particularly welcome to those who use this solution to save their documents. As the Mountain View giant’s team recalls in an official blog post, a beta version was launched in 2019 that allowed users to mark non-Google file types (such as PDFs, images and Microsoft Office files) available offline when using Google Drive on the web.

Well, now this functionality is made available to all users: this means that, when you mark these files as available offline, you will be able to open them from the browser even when you are not connected to the Internet. To save a file in your browser, simply right-click on the content you want to keep and activate Available offline.

ChromeOS users can also use the Files app from their Chromebook to select Google Docs, Sheets and Slides files to make available offline (this simplified access eliminates the need to open Google Drive or Google Docs to select files and make them available offline).

One of the main reasons why this novelty could prove very useful is represented by the possibility for users to have access to their most important files on Google Drive even when they are not connected to the Internet and the classic example is that of those who are traveling.

The release of this new feature has already started but it will take two weeks before it actually reaches all users. This new feature is available to all Google Workspace customers, Cloud Identity Free, Cloud Identity Premium, G Suite Basic, and G Suite Business customers, as well as personal accounts.
