Blizzard announced today that the next season of the Overwatch League will start in April 2022. An OWL spokesperson confirmed that an early version of Overwatch 2 will be used this season. Earlier today, Blizzard’s Overwatch league vice president Jon Spector tweeted that the next season of OWL will begin in 2022.
There have been rumors that the status of Overwatch 2 and its development progress may affect or delay the schedule of the new season. Spector said that the new season will start in April, and the league will announce some new details later.
I’ve seen a lot of speculation regarding a 2022 start date for OWL. We can confirm that our plan is to begin next season in April 2022. We will share more details about 2022 roster construction timelines soon and more info generally on our 2022 season as we get closer to April.

But Spector’s Twitter did not mention Overwatch 2. Blizzard subsequently contacted the media to indicate that the next season, the fifth season of OWL, will determine the use of the early version of Overwatch 2.
The fourth season of the Overwatch League has now come to an end. The playoffs will start on September 4th. The OWL finals will be held on September 25, and the season will also end. Overwatch 2 has not yet announced a listing date.
