Google cloud division reorganized, hoping to gain more market share

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian reorganized the department’s engineering team. He wanted to capture more markets faster. Kurian announced the reorganization in the email, and some technology executives were replaced, such as Eyal Manor.

Manor has been responsible for Google Cloud product and engineering affairs for the past 5 years. He has been working at Google for nearly 15 years. According to Kurian, Manor will look for other roles within the company.

It was Brad Calder who took over the work of Manor, and he was responsible for the products and engineering of the Google Cloud Platform. Calder reports directly to Kurian. Since Kurian took charge of Google Cloud, the organization has expanded a lot.

Restructuring can streamline the organization and help Google Cloud gain more markets. Statistics show that Amazon has a 33% share in the cloud market, Microsoft has 20%, and Google Cloud has only 10%. However, at the end of 2018, when Kurian took over Google Cloud, his share was only about 7%.
