Camera App code reveals many features of the Pixel 6 smartphone

After several months of publicity, Google will soon launch Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones equipped with custom Tensor chips. Although the appearance and some specifications of the camera have been announced, XDA-Developers has further shared some details about the camera hardware. For example, Pixel 6 will use a front 12MP selfie camera, and a 50MP Samsung GN1 main sensor + 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and Pixel 6 Pro will add a 48MP periscope lens that supports 4X zoom.

In terms of functions, thanks to the custom chip, the new Pixel 6 device will be able to combine the advantages of software and hardware to improve image quality. Interestingly, XDA-Developers also discovered some new features that have never been seen on Pixel devices before.

In a certain version of the camera app that has flowed out of Google, XDA revealed that the Pixel 6 Pro model is equipped with an ultra-wide-angle lens. In addition, sources who do not want to disclose their identities revealed that the machine also provides preset two-speed zoom options (0.7X and 1.0X).

  • Video Feature: The main camera of Pixel 6 will support 4K @ 60fps recording, but the upper limit of the ultra-wide/telephoto lens is 4K @ 30fps.
  • In addition, in 4K / 60fps mode, the maximum zoom will be limited to 7X, while the lower mode supports a maximum of 20X hybrid zoom and static shooting.
  • White balance: Google has been working hard to introduce manual adjustment options, but it may not be ready yet. XDA speculates that it may be limited to the developer experience at first.
  • Swiss magic eraser: It is expected that it will also call the TPU acceleration feature of the Pixel 6 custom Tensor chip to easily remove specific objects in the image.
  • Google’s confirmed face deblurring function: Its working principle is to use an ultra-wide-angle lens to capture additional frames of the subject while capturing HDR frames from the main camera. Then hand it over to the TPU to process the difference details, so as to achieve the deblurring effect of the moving face.
  • Scene lock: Earlier, it was thought to be related to the “naruto” code. It may be linked to autofocus (AE)/exposure (AE) lock, but the exact purpose is not yet clear.
  • Bluetooth microphone support: The code points to the function code of “sapphire”, but XDA sources cannot confirm this for the time being.
  • Motion blur: Allow users to add “creative blur effects” to photos.
  • Nima aesthetics: It seems to be related to the “Top Shot” function when Motion Photo is enabled (it seems to be based on the TPU acceleration of the Tensor chip).
  • Baby mode: As an automatic shooting function, it can recognize and capture cute moments when babies and toddlers are playing or walking around.

It should be pointed out that because the leak originated from the unofficial version of the camera App, the above functions may not be factored into the final retail version of Pixel 6 hardware. Interested friends can move to the XDA-Developers website to view the complete code analysis and function introduction.
