European Nintendo confirms N64 games on Switch are 60Hz

If you are using a Nintendo Switch Online member from the European server, then you don’t have to worry about the 50Hz version of the N64 game. European Nintendo confirmed that all its N64 games are English versions at 60Hz. The running speed of N64 games released by PAL is not as fast as NTSC. The former runs at 50Hz, while the running frequency of North American NTSC games is 60Hz.

Those old PAL versions did run slower on the old CRT settings, but Nintendo’s online services won’t let them become the norm this time. The 60Hz version will be the default version of Nintendo’s online services, but some games will still include options and language options to play the original version of PAL.

Nintendo’s face-to-face meeting in September announced that the company will launch a new service called Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. The service will bring a new N64 game library to the Switch, including games such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Interstellar Firefox 64, and Mario Tennis. It also adds Sega MD games to the retro game library, including classic games such as Contra, Ecco The Dolphin, and Golden Axe.
