WhatsApp launches Link a Device second device login function

For the past few months, WhatsApp has been testing a new feature to allow users to link their accounts to assistive devices. In this way, the user can continue to send and receive messages when the main device (smartphone) is not around. Now, this feature has landed on the WhatsApp mobile client (Android/iOS). Previously, the user had to ensure that the main smartphone was connected to the Internet in order to enable login at the same time on the Web browser.

Interested friends can enable the Link a Device function, which is still in the testing stage, on the smartphone App. You will unlink all devices before relinking to the new device. No matter whether the main device (smartphone) is online or not, you can continue to chat on the auxiliary device.

If the main device is accidentally lost (or the phone is about to run out of battery), but still needs to keep in touch with other people through WhatsApp, this feature is quite useful. Of course, WhatsApp will still implement end-to-end encryption for messages and calls. However, it should be noted that the linked device can only remain available for up to 14 days after the main device is offline.

In addition, the iOS client has functional limitations that do not allow users to delete messages or conversation threads from the linked device, nor can they log in to another mobile phone or tablet at the same time. To check this feature, please update to the latest version of WhatsApp first. Then click the “…” menu, select “Linked Devices” and enable this function.
