Google Messages tests a feature to be smarter

Notification badges have long been one of the most popular features for Android users, as they allow with a quick glance of the home screen to know how many and which applications have new features that require interaction and it seems that the Google Messages developer team is studying an improvement of this system.

According to what can be learned from the latest beta releases of the application, in fact, the Mountain View giant is trying to insert a badge also within the application to better highlight the chats that require users’ attention.

Another new feature for Google Messages

The novelty was found in at least two distinct versions of Google Messages (one of which is v. 10.6.240) with some small differences and this confirms that the work is not yet finished. Up until now, Google has preferred to show unread messages exclusively in bold text, just like it does with unopened Gmail threads.

However, points or badges are common in many other messaging apps (just think of WhatsApp) or in email clients, so we’re certainly not talking about an exclusive feature of the Mountain View giant. At the moment there are no guarantees that this new feature will be implemented for all users of Google Messages, as the US giant usually tests numerous features which are then set aside and this could also occur in this case.

In any case, those who use Google Messages a lot could find a more easily visible indicator next to unread chats convenient and probably for this reason it could sooner or later be made available to all users. At the moment this news seems to be the result of a server-side update.
