Epic has further expanded its investment portfolio and announced today that it has acquired Harmonix. Although Harmonix has been quiet in recent years, the company still has a very large appeal. The most famous works are the Guitar Hero series, the Rock Band series and the Dance Center series.
Although Harmonix and Epic have kept some details secret for the time being, some important details are still being disclosed today. In a blog post on its website, Harmonix stated: “Through the cooperation with Epic, we have once again challenged people’s expectations, because we have brought our unique music game experience brand to Metaverse, and we can’t suppress the excitement.”

This sentence is slightly vague, but Harmonix becomes clearer in the short Q&A on the acquisition later. The company said it will be committed to “creating a musical journey and gameplay for Fortnite.” This sentence also doesn’t give much information, but it sounds like we can expect Harmonix’s musical performance in “Fortress Night” at some point in the future.
It seems that buying the entire development studio just to make it contribute to Fortnite is an excessive approach, so Epic may have broader plans for Harmonix in the future. However, it now appears that the company’s mission is to make “Fortnite” more musical, which is not necessarily a bad thing considering the history of Harmonix.
