Google Chrome works on sharing links for media

In the past, Google Chrome only allowed you to share links to complete web pages or to specific predefined anchor points within them, and only later was it possible to create custom links that highlighted specific snippets of text within a page. Now the developers of the Google Chrome browser are working to take the next logical step, which is the ability to link images and other media on a page in much the same way.

The text snippets initially appeared in Google Search results indicating exactly where on the resulting page the information the user was looking for was. Shortly thereafter, users could create these shortcuts with the help of a handy Chrome extension before the functionality was integrated directly into the browser itself.

Google is now trying to implement a similar system for targeting media on a site so that users can see it in the context of a web page.
