Google Messages starts receiving the new conversation feature

In September, a new feature emerged in the Google Messages app that aims to help the user stay up to date on important conversations by sending reminders to avoid forgetting to reply. At the time, the feature was not accessible to end-users, while today Google has begun to distribute it more widely.

The “Nudges” feature starts appearing for some Google Messages users

As noted by Mishaal Rahman, the latest update of the Google Messages app has started implementing the Nudges feature for some users. Selected users can activate the feature by going to Settings> General> Tips> Nudges and choosing one of two settings: “suggest response reminder” and suggest follow-up reminder.

When enabled, the first option automatically displays messages that the user may have forgotten to reply to at the top of their inbox. The second option will draw your attention to messages that the user may need to follow up on. The feature appears to have been available since the 10.8.260 beta of Google Messages, but this is very likely a server-side implementation, as some users see the feature appear in version 10.6.240 as well.
