iOS 15.2 adds parts and service history feature to iPhone

With the release of iOS 15.2, Apple will add a new Parts and Service History function to the Settings app, allowing users to view the service history of their iPhone and confirm that the parts used for repair are genuine. According to Apple’s documentation, iPhone users with iOS 15.2 or later can go to Settings> General> About to access the parts and service history. Parts and service only in the history section of your iPhone when repairs are carried out on available.

The specific content that can be viewed includes:

  • For ‌iPhone‌ XR, XS, XS Max and newer models, including iPhone SE (2nd generation), you can check whether the battery has been replaced.
  • For iPhone11, iPhone12, and iPhone13 models, you can check whether the battery or display has been replaced.
  • For ‌iPhone12‌ and ‌iPhone13‌ models, you can check whether the battery, display, or camera has been replaced.
  • If the repair was done using genuine Apple parts and tools, the repairs in this section will list “Genuine Apple Parts” next to the repaired component.
  • If the part installation is incomplete, the part has been replaced by a non-genuine product, the part is already used or installed in another iPhone, or the part does not perform as expected, the message Unknown Part will be displayed. In previous iOS versions, customers could only check whether the replacement part was identified as an unknown part.

Apple stated that the messages in the Service History section will not affect the ability to use the iPhone, its battery, display, or camera. This information is collected and stored on the device, and Apple uses it for service needs, security analysis and improvement of future products.
