Following Google, Microsoft is now also testing RSS-driven Follow buttons and feeds, which will help users keep in touch with their favorite websites. In the Edge Canary build for Windows, Microsoft has begun testing a new feed that introduces native RSS functionality integrated with Collections.
Platforms like Google News or Microsoft News have ended the classic era of RSS, but it is still the driving force for popular aggregation tools. Google News, Google Discover, and Microsoft News are all algorithm-based ways to provide users with content, and many people have been looking for a way to curate their news sources. Now, if you want to subscribe to RSS feeds, you can rely on RSS readers or use web applications such as Feedly.
When Google reintroduced the feature in the Android version of the Chrome browser, Google once said-“We have heard it very clearly.” Microsoft’s implementation of the same function is called the “traceable network”, and it is currently being promoted to specific users running Edge Canary. The sign to enable this experimental feature appeared nearly three months ago, and it was reintroduced in the latest update as part of the company’s controlled testing.
Followable Web, as the name suggests, allows users to use the Collections button in the toolbar, and then get carefully curated updates from their favorite websites. It is also deployed in the Collections panel, and the articles published by the publication will appear in a modern feed when the browser is opened next time.
Currently, Edge’s RSS subscription function is only part of Collections, so users need to click this button. In the future, the RSS subscription function may be transferred to the toolbar of the browser to have its own buttons. In addition, Microsoft will also introduce a new “Follow” button, which will be located in the browser’s address bar. If the website that the user visits in Edge has a supported RSS feed, there will be a “Follow” button in the address bar, and website updates will also appear in a new side panel.
