Windows 11 Sun Valley 2 update is expected to arrive in the summer of 2022

As part of the Windows 11 Anniversary Update, Microsoft is planning to launch a feature update codenamed Sun Valley 2 in July 2022. Similar to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, it also contains a long list of much-needed improvements. It is expected that Windows 11 22H2 will be the next major version, which is expected to become faster, smoother, and more modern, and allow WinUI to be more tightly integrated with the rest of the system.

Windows Latest pointed out that Windows 11 22H2 may introduce a new dark mode for the Run window, supplemented by other native applications. But for users who are accustomed to the old system, support for key features such as taskbar drag and drop and right-click is still indispensable.

As for whether Microsoft will listen to user opinions and allow the taskbar locked at the bottom of the screen to be moved to the other side of the screen, it is currently unknown. But in fact, in the Dev preview channel, Microsoft has quietly included some changes. You only need to implement some modifications to the registry to enable most taskbar drag-and-drop operations (not to mention other third-party solutions).

Looking ahead to the summer of 2022, Microsoft may open a new customization option for the Start menu in the Windows 11 Sun Valley 2 update to allow users to pin more applications or recommended content here.

In addition to design enhancements, the bottom layer of the system will also usher in some key changes. For example, it is suitable for the snapshot group management function of the Android subsystem (WSA), as well as many adjustments to the settings of the application and the control panel.

As for third-party widgets, Windows 10/11 has already supported Microsoft To-Do, weather, news, and interests. However, when the API is officially opened, Sun Valley 2 can also usher in more abundant resources. For those who miss the third-party desktop gadgets of the Windows Vista (and Windows 7) era, the Windows 11 22H2 update is quite worth looking forward to.
