Samsung has to find a place in our small series with a view of the past year. The world market leader for smartphones could soon give up this title.
But that’s less dramatic this time around than in previous years when Huawei was on its way to becoming number 1. Back then, the race was tighter when it came to the quality of the equipment. This time, Xiaomi seems to be taking over the market leadership primarily because of its own cheap strategy.
Wear OS on the rise, thanks to Samsung
Samsung was able to catch up again. The South Korean manufacturer delivered in 2021 in particular and was able to make some wise decisions. This includes very close cooperation with Google in some Android areas. If we take Wear OS, the final switch to the Google OS was exactly the right way to go. In any case, this is shown very clearly by current sales figures.
The best smartphone of the year
There are discrepancies here and there in the opinion of which manufacturer delivered the best smartphone package in 2021. But the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra was often the best smartphone of the year for experts and colleagues. It has the most extensive and best camera, an excellent display and a very high-quality design. In any case, it is clear, even if some fanboys from other brands, in particular, do not want to agree, that Samsung continues to play at the top and may even be the Android benchmark.
It looked a little different in previous years. In addition, with Huawei, there was a manufacturer who really saw the Samsung chair on a technical level. Xiaomi still has a few ways to go, as the next part of the article will illuminate.
Further than the competition: New technologies are ready for the market
Because not only the regular Samsung flagship is a blast. The new foldable Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Fold 3 are really very good and ready for the mass market. That should also have shown the sales figures. Other manufacturers are far from being at this level. Oppo, Xiaomi and Co. show comparable devices, but only offer them in China and in small numbers. What other manufacturers have only been showing so far, Samsung has long been on store shelves around the world.
Updates faster than the competition
For years, Samsung was the ugly duckling when it came to smartphone software and update delivery. But that is different for a long time. In addition to update guarantees for many of its own devices, Samsung is now also delivering a new Android very quickly. Android 12 including One UI 4 for around 14 Galaxy devices from the last three years was delivered before the end of the year. Others haven’t even started rolling out a single device.
