Tesla delivered nearly 1 million cars in 2021

Tesla delivered a record 936,172 vehicles in 2021. As outlined in a Tesla report, this is an 87% increase from the 499,550 vehicles delivered by the company in 2020. It is reported that the company successfully delivered 308,600 vehicles in the last quarter of 2021 alone, an increase from 24,1300 vehicles in the third quarter.

Of these deliveries, 11,750 were Model S and X, and 296,850 were Model 3 and Y. Among them, Model 3 and Y also accounted for most of the annual deliveries, 936,172 vehicles, while Model S and X deliveries were 24,964 vehicles.

Tesla has previously stated that it plans to increase deliveries by about 50% each year. Although it has not reached the delivery volume of 1 million vehicles, it still exceeds its annual growth target. In November, an internal memo showed that Tesla CEO Elon Musk told his employees not to rush to complete deliveries before the end of the quarter but to focus on cutting costs. He pointed out that he expected a wave from Vehicles from Tesla’s California and China plants will reach customers in December.

Continued chip shortages have caused some automakers to step on the brakes, and Tesla is no exception. Last year, Tesla rewrote its own software to help alleviate the impact of the shortage, and also had to temporarily shut down production at its California plant in February. Some customers even report the lack of USB ports in their vehicles, which may be due to shortages.

Nevertheless, after car rental company Hertz added 100,000 Teslas to its fleet, Tesla’s value exceeded $1 trillion in October. The company even set the most profitable quarter in history in the third quarter of 2021 but considering that the earnings for the last quarter of 2021 have not yet been announced, this situation may change.
