Hardware from smartphones will be found in a similar form in more and more cars in the future. Especially in vehicles with Android Automotive, the technology is very similar to the usual smartphones. Volvo is a pioneer in this area.
The full-fledged Android Automotive OS from Google is slowly gaining ground. And some of the partners are now igniting the next level. The Swedes around Volvo have announced that in the future there will be a Snapdragon platform in their own vehicles.
Qualcomm is also trying its hand at the auto industry and wants to fuel the digital screens. Although I didn’t find Android Automotive to be slow in current Volvo models, more speed usually doesn’t hurt. To this end, Volvo Cars and Qualcomm are now teaming up for future vehicles.
Volvo makes Android Automotive significantly faster
By using the Snapdragon platforms, Android Automotive should react faster and more reliably in the future. With extremely low energy consumption, they meet the highest demands on graphics, audio and artificial intelligence – criteria that are required for the new Polestar 3 and the upcoming fully electric Volvo SUV.
By using the latest Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platforms, the next-generation infotainment system from Volvo Cars will be more than twice as fast as previous versions; the graphic generation is even up to ten times faster.
