Linux Mint 20.3 released

Linux Mint 20.3 is officially released today, and there are three flavors of Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce for users to choose from. The release notes for each version are similar, but the Cinnamon flavored version features Cinnamon 5.2, which includes a new calendar widget in the clock menu.

In this update, the Hypnotix IPTV player has been improved with support for dark mode and a new set of flag icons, and it also includes a search function to quickly jump to TV channels, movies and series.

Linux Mint users also get a new Xapp called Thingy. This is a document manager for quick access to your favorite and recently opened documents. A nice feature of Thingy is that it tracks your reading progress so you can keep reading next time.

Linux Mint 20.3 users will immediately notice that windows on the desktop have larger title bar buttons, rounded corners, a cleaner theme, and support for dark mode. Larger window buttons ensure easier window management and help prevent accidental clicks. For a complete list of changes in this upgrade, please see the What’s New page.

Linux Mint 20.3 is based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and will therefore be supported until April 2025. However, it’s unlikely you’ll still be running this version of Mint in 2025, as Linux Mint 21 will be out around May and Linux Mint 22 should be out sometime in 2024. If you are using any old Linux Mint 20.x version, please note the upgrade path opened through the update manager.
