Apple search tool Shazam has now launched a Chrome browser extension

Apple seems to quietly launch a Shazam extension for Chrome browser users at the end of 2021, Shazam is a music recognition service. Apple acquired Shazam in 2017, but even before that, Shazam was built into Apple devices at the OS level. On an iPhone or Mac, users can ask Siri to identify any song that’s playing without the need for the Shazam app.

Shazam is now also available through the Chrome browser extension on PC and Mac. Once installed, the Shazam Chrome extension can be accessed next to the address bar, which opens a Shazam interface to listen to what’s playing. When the extension recognizes a song, it opens an option to play it in Apple Music (subscribers can sign in to get the full song).

The Shazam extension provides access to Shazam’s song history, as well as lyrics, music videos, and more for Apple Music users. Apple doesn’t advertise the Shazam extension except on the Shazam website, which 9to5Google speculates may be due to a problem with the extension, as some users report that the Shazam extension doesn’t seem to work at all, specifically not recognizing any songs, but a few others The user said that the song can be recognized normally.
